All-Play-All
Last updated 16 May 2010
Club Championship, Minor Championship, Novice Cup, and Most Improved Player
The tournament runs for the whole season and is open to all members of the club. The player with the most points wins, so it is important to play as many games as possible. Members may not refuse a challenge if optional dates on club nights are offered. Results will be submitted for standard play grading.

Players are recommended to arrange matches with opponents a week in advance . Contact details of players are available on the club notice board. ECF standard play and rapid play rules apply except for local conditions noted here. Players may choose not to record their games, but cannot claim a win on time in the All-Play-All. Results slips must be given to the Competitions Secretary on completion of the game or in his absence placed in the CHALLENGES & RESULTS envelope on the club notice board.
A member may challenge each other member once offering three potential dates for the game. Dates offered must be club nights and be nights when there is no club team playing at home and the challenged member does not have a scheduled club Knock-out Cup game. The challenged member must accept one of the offered dates or forfeit the game by default and both players should record the agreed date for the game on a results and challenge slip given to the Competitions Secretary or in his absence placed in the Challenges and results envelope on the club notice board. By mutual agreement and consulting the Competitions Secretary prior to the game, players may agree to play at a member’s home or at another club on a date that is not a Worcester City Club night. The same players may play each other, but no more than 2 games in the All-Play-All, the second with colours reversed. Games should start no later than 7:30pm unless a later starting time has been agreed by both players and the Competitions Secretary. Time control: 35 moves in 1¼ hour followed by 15 minutes extra to complete the game. The results of games will be submitted for standard play grading. Winners will be those with the highest score in their section (except for most improved player) so the more games you play, the greater the chance of winning. No member may win both the Championship and the Minor Championship or the Novice Cup. In the event that the winner of the Club Championship also leads the scores in another Section, the second placed player in the other Section will win that Section’s trophy. Players with grades from nations other than England should apply to the Competitions Secretary for a ruling or estimated grade before commencing in the All-Play-All.
Worcester City Championship for the member who scores the highest number of points in the All-Play-All against opponents in any section of the tournament
Worcester City Minor Championship for a member, being graded below 120, who scores the greatest number of points in the All-Play-All against opponents in any section of the tournament, providing that the player has not won the Championship.
The Novice Cup for a current member who has: (1) scored the greatest number of points in the All-Play-All against opponents in any section of the tournament, (2) not been in membership during 2008-9, (3) no published grade in a list dated 2000 or more recently, and (4) have completed at least three games against opponents in any section of the All-Play-All tournament.
The Most Improved Player for a member: (1) whose tournament performance grade is higher than a grade published in the most recently dated list within the last 10 years, (2) whose difference in grades between published grade and tournament performance grade is greatest of graded players competing in the All-Play-All, and (3) who has completed at least four games against players in any section of the All-Play-All. In the event that no player has a tournament performance grade higher than the published grade, the award shall be based on games played in League games during the current season before the date of the Club’s AGM.
