2012-13 season: Wheatley Knock Out Cup

Introduction

Laurence Wheatley is the Tournament Controller and will be asking for entries to the 2012-13 competition shortly.

The Wheatley team handicap knock out competition is intended to be a bit of fun and is designed to allow five-board teams with lower graded players a good chance of success. Strong players should not be deterred, because games are not graded. The controller is Laurence Wheatley (No e-mail, telephone 07752 328 267 evenings 7-9pm and weekends only please).

Handicap Rules

The rules are designed to reward teams that perform better than their players' aggregate grading. Rules and the handicap calculations. Captains should obatin their team members' grades from the ECF on-line database. If any team player does not have a published grade, a captain should consult the Controller, Lawrence Wheatley (contact details above), who will make a decision about the grade to be employed for the player in the calculation to determine the handicap. The difference of the sums of the two team's aggregate grades is used to calculate the number of points awarded to the lower graded team before the start of the match. It is rounded to the nearest quarter point and means that no match has resulted in a draw and required a replay since the competition started. The procedure for calculating the handicap is to divide the difference in team's aggregate grades by 50 and round to the nearest quarter point. The maximum handicap is limited to 4¾.
