18 Oct.. It is with sadness I report the death of Derek Perks, formerly secretary of Mercia CC and one of the most likeable and respected players in the district. He was president of Wolverhampton & District Chess League 2005-7. Outside of chess he was until very recently an automotive engineer. He was a fisherman, a ballroom dancer, played badminton, and a keen follower of cricket and football. A dedicated family man, he leaves wife, son, daughter and grandchildren. Our condolences to his family. See also Wolverhampton League website.

22 Aug. Annual and Fixtures Meeting. After many years John Fahy stepped down from the role of league secretary. There was no volunteer replacement at the meeting and any league matters for the time being should be referred to Paul Sharratt.
