Covid-19 deletes 2020-1 season

With corona virus restrictions still in place, members hoped to re-commence the league in 2022.

31 Oct 2020. John Fahy reports. No competitions 2020-1. After consultation with clubs, and following discussion with the President Paul Sharratt, The league’s officers released statement: "we have decided that the League will NOT recommence this season due to the lack in numbers of teams wishing to take part. We will therefore look to recommence the Dudley League in the 2022/23 season, by which time I hope we will have seen the worst of Covid and more players will come back to over the board chess, myself included".

29 Dec 2020. Frank Wood (Wolverhampton), Paul Sharratt reports. It is with great sadness That I I have to convey to you the news that Frank Wood, Chairman of Wolverhampton Chess Club and stalwart and keen supporter of the local chess leagues, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer less than a month ago and passed away yesterday and will be sorely missed - may he rest in peace. 8 Mar 2021, BDCL website reports. Ken Francis, president aand co-founder of Mercia Chess Club in 1969, has passed away. Alan Ruffle has written a short appreciation of Ken on the BDCL website.
