Match reported by Ray Collett. A very even and hard fought encounter throughout. The first to finish – at 10pm – were players on board 4. Hostilities were concluded when there was a queen and pawn for two rooks and no way of avoiding continual checks. Peter Kitson was the first victor a few minutes later. This was followed within seconds by Harris' win on board 3. On board 5, Keene ran short of time and his flag fell before he could complete his 42nd move. The top board players agreed a draw in an even minor piece and rook ending. Board 6 was a tense affair, with both players short of time in a complex double rook and knight ending. Farthing sealed and the game was agreed drawn without resuming.
