13 Aug. Keith Arkell (Halesowen) wins MCCU Midlands Championship held at West Bromwich.
18 Apr. Halesowen 1 league champions. Halesowen clinch the league championship with a win over Olton.
5 Apr. Halesowen 2B Division II champions. An adjourned game puts Halesowen 2B into the top spot.
26 Mar. Nick Arkell (Halesowen) shared second place in the Birmingham rapidplay Open tournament.
4 Jan. The first result for 2017 is in. Halesowen 2B beat Greenlands in Division 2.
1 Jan. Worcester City lead Division 1 by a whisker with Halesowen 1
on the same number of match points and a match in hand.
19 Aug. New team for 2016-7. Halesowen 1 increased their presence by entering two teams into Div 2.Olton, last season's Div 2 champions, took promotion to Division 1 with a new captain Mark Cundy.

27 Apr. The last game result is in. Game on board 4 adjudicated a draw in the Olton-Halesowen match.
25 Apr. Olton win the final match of the season against Kidderminster.
18 Apr. Halesowen confirm League championship title. Playing at home, Halesowen turned out a strong team to defeat Olton.
18 Apr. Halesowen and Olton have agreed results of two of the games from 11 April and the match result can still go either way, or be a draw.
11 Apr. Three games to decide the champions? Olton are 2-1 up against Halesowen I, and there are there are three games to be decided.
30 Mar. Olton beat Worcester City and it's beginning to look as if the Halesowen-Olton fixture will determine the destination of the league championship.
28 Mar. Halesowen I had a convincing win at home against Malvern reclaiming in a matter of hours the top slot from Malvern, but they had to find a GM to do so.
24 Mar. Malvern beat an attenuated Worcester City after Highways England unhelpfully, from Worcester's prspective, closed the M6 making it impossible for their captain to get to Malvern for the start of the match.
2 Mar. Halesowen beat Worcester City
21 Feb. Halesowen 1 beat Kidderminster I to top the league and are the only team not to have conceded a lost match.
15 Feb. Kidderminster draw with Malvern and manage the feat of going from bottom to top of the division joining Kidderminster.
2 Feb. Worcester draw at home with Malvern so that all teams are on 4 match points
24 Jan. Olton and Malvern fight an inconclusive match at Greenlands with two games going into a second session.
21 Jan. Halesowen catch up with Kidderminster at the top after a draw with Malvern.
18 Jan. Kidderminster A go top over former leaders Worcester City in a close match.
22 Dec. The season is shaping up to be highly competitive with all teams having scored a win. Halesowen and Malvern are so far undefeated and Halesowen join Worcester at the top.
14 Sep. The first league match result is in - a draw.
19 Aug. Fixtures meeting. Olton, winners of Division II last year, took promotion and Kidderminster A remain in division I because new teams have joined Division II. Team representatives agreed to play a double round against each team in the Division.There was an informal discussion of players' preferences for adjournment or adjudication - current league practice - over quickplay finishes as practised in the Worcester & District League. Club representatives said that their players were divided on this issue and only one team had a clear preference.

| Match reported by Stephen Mellor and John Knee. Board 1 saw an early queen exchange and Davis emerged with B+N against R+P. In the quickplay endgame the rooks' counter attack came too late and Davis won. Geoff Marchant quickly gained the exchange on board 2 and finished early to put Malvern in the lead. Fine defence by Mellor against his opponent's attack left him ahead on material and a won game at the end. Keene sacrificed a piece for three pawns but counterplay from Clarke's queen secured a draw. On Board 5 was an early draw after the centre became blocked. A slow opening on Board 6 led to a position where both players had attacking chances, but Smith won a piece after his opponent made a mistake. | |||

| Match reported by David Waud and John Knee. Although Davis got a Q-side initiative on board 1,exchanges soon produced an equal position and a draw. Facing an unusual opening line, Clarke got king-side pressure. Watson defended carefully and a slip in time-trouble gave Watson a decisive counter-attack. Board 3 reached an ending with rooks and opposite-coloured bishops, but a mistake led to forced mate and win for Turner. After an even game on board 4 players decided the heavy piece ending was easily defensible and agreed a draw. Knee faced an unusual couter-attacking defence and players agreed the draw when Varilone's isolated pawn was seen to insufficient handicap to give White hope of a win. 15 Feb. In possibly the decisive match of the Division, leaders Halesowen 2A beat Kidderminster B.
6 & 13 Feb. Stourbridge must have felt ambushed at home when they lost to a 4-man Droitwich team. In the second fixture away at Droitwich the home team was again a man down and duly lost. Droitwich, struggling to fill team places have recruited a new player who has now made his mark with two wins from his first games in this league.
11 Jan. Kidderminster with two matches in hand put themselves just behind Halesowen 2A with a win against Droitwich.
4 Jan. Kidderminster join the pack snapping at Halesowen A's heals with a win against Greenlands.
3 Jan. Halesowen B continue in style with a New Year's win against Greenlands.
20 Dec. Halesowen B lift themselves off the bottom with a draw against Stourbridge.
13 Dec. Leaders Halesowen A were humbled by Kidderminster throwing the competition open.
12 Dec. Greenlands close the gap with Halesowen A with a win against Droitwich where both teams defaulted a board.
8 Dec. Halesowen B beat the A team to throw the competition open.
30 Nov. Kidderminster B score their first win.
21 Nov. After defaulting their last match, Droitwich notch up their first win.
15 Nov. Greenlands clashed with leaders Halesowen A and the result was a draw leaving Halesowen A ahead.
7 Nov. Halesowen A go further into the lead with a victory away against Stourbridge.
1 Nov. Illnesses forced Droitwict to default their match against Greenlands.
13 Oct. All teams have now been in action. Halesowen A are leading having won both their opening matches.

| Match reported by Ray Collett. It looked at first as if the visiting team would go away with the first Division 2 win of the season, but dogged defence and peristent play got Droitwich a draw and their first points on the table. Kidderminster were the first to score, on board 3. At this stage, Collett had landed himself a very passive position, John Whitehead was pressing hard with an advanced pawn, and other games looked even. Preece misjudged exchanges into the ending and found a completely equal position and offered the draw. Kirkland, seemingly tied up survived and Cleak entered a rook and pawn ending a pawn up. There were faint drawing chances especially after Cleak's king retreated from his dominating position, but Pountney allowed his opponents king to get to the queensite and capture pawns allowing Cleak to notch up a deserved victory. | Match reported by Ray Collett: Droitwich went into this match a man down and expecting to lose to the Division 2 leaders, but Halesowen also lacked their best division 2 players. Board 1 was a feisty affair with both players thinking they had a winning middlegame position. Both kings were vulnerable to fierce attacks but Collett's knight pillaged the white position and later forked the king and rook. Kirkland was ahead at one stage but then slipped up. Young Silas Bowcott-Terry went the full distance with his experienced opponent, but was finally overwhelmed with pawns in the ending. | |||
