Reports

Jim Keene, President took the chair for the meeting held 20 May. He reported that the club had increased membership and members had carried key roles chess nationally and regionally. Pat Greenow, Treasurer reported that the annual deficit had been cut because there had been an increase in fees from subscriptions and the provision of refreshments had made a modest contribution. It was agreed that the club should keep fees at the same rate as this year for next season. Just four new members would allow the club to break even. Ray Collett, Equipment Secretary, reported that equipment loans had been returned and he planned to arrange for some of the clocks to be serviced.

Team Results

Worcester City - Captain Ray Collett reported that the Worcester City team had won the Wheatley Memorial Trophy for the 4th time in a very close match with Hagley. In the County League Division 1, results were similar to last year, but players had performed as well as their grades. Peter Kitson and Jim Keene had particularly good results.
Worcester Bishops - The team finished 4th from 6 in Division 1 of Worcester & District League beating Kidderminster Pawns decisively and scoring a two-all draw against Champions Malvern at the end of the season. New player Ed Osbourn had bee a welcome addition to the side said captain Andrew Farthing.
Worcester Pawns - Roger Yates, captain, reported the team had come 5th from 6 teams in Division 2 of Worcester & District League.

Internal Tournaments

There had been a full programme this year. The Five Minute Tournament was won by Steve Mellor and the Lightening Tournament by Ray Collett. These 'fast play' had been well supported. A reasonable number of games had been played in the All-Play-All and Rapidplay events. The All-Play-All was won by Ray Collett and the Minor Championship by Phil Smith. Results from the All-Play-All, Rapidplay and Knock Out would be submitted for grading. The Most Improved Player award went to Jim Keene, for his team performances and the best new player was Ed Osbourn. The Knock Out Tournament is due to be completed at the last club night of this season at St Stephen's Church Hall on 27 May.
