4 Sep 2025. Fun Blitz Tournament. A September Fun 5 minute - no increments - blitz was organised on the first night back at winter HQ. Twenty six players competed in four groups. The group winners were: Joe Rastall, Scott Oxtoby, Ray Collett and Rob Sutton. The runners-up were: Alaric Stephen, Dorin Luca, Simon Berry and Alex Nicholls. Ray dropped out of the competition at this stage and Scott Maclean who was just behind Simon Berry joined the group winners and runners-up to play quarter final games on on 2 October. Rob Sutton, Joe Rastall, Scott Maclean and Scott Oxtoby progressed to the semi finals and the two finalists were Rob sutton and Scott Maclean. The final was played on 23 October and won by president, Rob Sutton. See results.
The club intend two future Blitz tournaments on 5th February 2026 - the Worcester City Blitz Championships using 3+2 time control - and on 11 June using 1+5 time control.
Club Championship. All club members who are also members of the English Chess Federation (ECF) are eligible. The competition will be organised as a knock-out tournament with games on dates set by the controller. Games will have 45+30 time control. The controller will will arrange replays for players who draw. Players who lose in any round will be paired with other losing players in subsequent rounds so even if you lose in the first round, you will have four games in the competition. Nights for club championship games are: R1 on 2 October, R2 on 27 November, R3 on 22 January. Semi-finals are scheduled for 26 March and the final on 14 May. Rapidplay Championship. The rapidplay competition will again be run as an all-play-all tournament and new members will be able to join at any time during the season. The time control is 20 minutes + 10 seconds. Unlike in the standardplay, competitiors are not required to write down their moves. The winner will be the payer with the highest score ot 30 Apr 2026.
