Further Information

The club welcomes players of all ages and abilities. Parents: The play area is not a bar area and parents are welcome to stay (or frequent the downstairs bar area!!). Talking etc is OK, but must be kept quiet to allow the chess brains to concentrate. Hereford may have beeen the first English city outside London to host a chess club which was first formed in 1812. Given the current unusual/uncertain times the Club is not collecting any membership fees. Play is FREE. There is a car park opposite the Herdsman and at the Odeon shopping complex etc. The landlord does not charge us for the room so we encourage (not compulsory) all to buy at least one drink from the bar. A soft drink is fine.

Internal tournaments:

Club championship, Hereford Premier and Major Knockout tournaments and the leslie Barker Swiss tournament. The club also hosts the Herefordshire County Championship.

The 2016 club champion is Lee Davis also current Herefordshire county champion and winner of the club's knock-out tournament. Kieran Lappin won the 2016 Major Knock-out tournament.
