From Ray Collett's records and Worcester News 6 Dec. Stuart Barbour was hacked down after losing a piece, but the scores were soon equalised when Tony Spittle beat Richard Collett. Ray Collett took a wrong turning in a Ruy Lopez and lost a pawn, but gained an initiative. His attack netted a pawn and then the exchange and converted the rook versus knight ending to give Worcester their first win in the season.

Bob Fox, an ex-hereford player was Worcester's number 2. The first game to finish was on board 4 where Ben Mills succumbed after an up-and-down game. On top board, Ray Collett made little progress until Ronald Thompson made an unforced error.
