| Reported by Roger Yates and Kevan Ward. The Worcester team went into an early lead when Hesketh got a quick win. The scores were evened by Barry Smith. On board 1, Collett was a pawn up against David Hodkinson in a double rook and pawn ending while Berry had a kingside attack in a complex position. Collett won a second pawn and promoted a pawn to win his game leaving the match in the balance on board 2. On that board, exchanges had left players with equal material but Smith had a dangerous passed pawn in a rook and minor piece ending and neither player had much time. Further exchanges to a rook and pawn ending gave the advantage to Smith, but the exchange of rooks to a king and pawn ending turned the tables and Berry forced his opponent’s resignation when it was clear Berry could promote a pawn. | |||

Board 4 finished first after Yates won a bishop for two pawns.There were some possibilities for a draw when the position reduced to R+B+2P against R+3P because all the pawns were on one side of the board, but the Worcester captain converted. On board 1, Varilone won the exchange and gained a powerful attack with an advanced pawn on Berry's king. Board 2 went to the wire. In the ending, Kemp had a pawn advantage in a bishop and pawn ending, but the bishops were on opposite coloured squares. | |||

| Reported by Giles Stanton and Roger Yates. Luck was with the Redditch team. On board one the Worcester player opened with the Nimzo-Larson attack, but an early error coast white a piece. The game finished first when white had to resign a few moves later faced with loss of the queen or mate. On board two, Kohls was after blood. He sacrificed a bishop and queen for a mating attack. Both players missed a defence and white completed his mating attack. On board four, Clack won a piece early in the game and converted showing good technique. The board three game was last to finish. Rimmington created a menacingly superior position with two advanced central pawns and a monster knight on g4 to force the win. | |||
